Ponce – who composed works such as Estrellita and A la orilla de un palmar – whose guitar works were dedicated to the Spanish musician Andrés Segovia; the dark sensuality of La Gran Sarabanda, a recently created work by Cuban Leo Brouwer, commissioned by the Guitar Foundation of America; the picturesque postcards of southern Spain by Isaac Albéniz, contemporary of George Bizet – author of the opera Carmen; and the vaporous sensuality of La maja de Goya by Enrique Granados, a sound recreation of the homonymous painting by the Spanish painter Francisco de Goya.
